The Rosewood Revival

Mark Ferland, owner of AMF Companies, is passionate about making old things new again. When he purchased the Rosewood Ballroom in 2017, he envisioned a total revival of the classic Macon event venue on College Street. He dreamed of creating a beautiful space where the community could make priceless memories at milestone events.

Mark felt such a connection with the building that he personally renovated everything in the Rosewood, from the floors to the ceiling. He even handcrafted custom round tables and a large banquet table to fill the ballroom. The Rosewood’s definitive arches and beams draw attention to the room’s centerpiece – a one-of-a-kind stained-glass skylight adorned with roses. Each of the amenities feature intricate details that highlight the care and passion invested by Mark during the renovation.

History of the Rosewood Ballroom

The original building was built in 1890 on Macon’s upper College Street for a grocer named Leonard Rudolph Wright. The Wrights lived in the home until 1941, when it was converted into apartments. In 1983, the building was purchased by Smith & Sons Food, Inc. (S&S Cafeteria). S&S Cafeteria also purchased some adjoining properties to the home and relocated the building to its current address on 170 College Street, at the intersection of College and Walnut Streets. S&S Cafeteria performed extensive renovations, adding ballrooms, dining rooms, offices, and an industrial kitchen. The new building was named the Rosewood, after the family’s favorite flower.

The restaurant closed in 1986 and was vacant for ten years until it was purchased by the Macon-Bibb Housing Association. AMF Companies purchased the ballroom in 2017 and completely renovated the Rosewood – reviving its classic name and creating a beautiful, versatile space for Macon events, parties, and weddings.
